- Will
remain viable and healthy for years, so they have a very long
shelf life
- Does
not even require refrigeration
- The
spores will also pass through the stomach's acidic environment
with no problem
- Once
in the small intestine, a spore will sporulate, meaning it will
open up and grow
- Studies
show that Sporogenes do provide healthy effects when given as

| There are a number
of beneficial bacteria, yeast, and protozoa that are required by the
intestinal tract. It has been estimated that there are actually several
hundred different species of microbes needed for healthy intestinal
function! |
There are many reasons
the normal intestinal flora might become depleted, including:
- Antibiotic (drugs
that kill bacteria), antifungal (drugs that kill fungi and yeast), and
antiprotozoal (drugs that kill organisms such as Giardia and Malaria)
drug use
- Chronic diarrhea
- Chronic constipation
- Poor diet
- Maldigestion and
malassimilation
- Colitis
- Inflammatory Bowel
Disease
- Use of drugs that
inhibit the immune system
For years, studies
have shown that supplementing the intestinal tract with beneficial bacteria
could be very helpful. There are actually thousands of scientific papers
that have studied this issue. Research papers published over 30 years
ago showed the beneficial effects of bacterial supplementation.
Lactobacillus acidophilus
has been extensively studied, and consistently shown to be beneficial
to the intestinal tract. Also commonly called acidophilus, lactobacillus
has two problems as a suitable supplement for bacterial replacement. First,
it is not stable on the shelf, and many products have no live lactobacillus
left by the time the consumer purchases the product1! Second,
lactobacillus acidophilus is killed off in a highly acidic environment.
The stomach is extremely acidic and the vast majority of lactobacillus
die in the stomach before they have a chance to reach the small intestine
where they are needed.
Lactobacillus sporogenes
is a new bacterium that corrects these problems. First, this type of lactobacillus
is in a spore form. Some bacteria are capable of forming spores, which
are resistant to destruction. Spores are like plant seeds: they can remain
alive for years, and when they encounter the optimal environment for growth,
will open up and turn into a new plant. Lactobacillus sporogenes will
remain viable and healthy for years, so they have a very long shelf life.
This bacterium does not even require refrigeration. The spores will also
pass through the stomach's acidic environment with no problem. Once in
the small intestine, a spore will sporulate, meaning it will open up and
grow. Studies show that Sporogenes do provide healthy effects when given
as a supplement2.
For these reasons,
Lactobacillus sporogenes is considered to be an excellent supplement to
aid in replenishing normal intestinal flora. Wellvet.com recommends Lactobacillus
sporogenes commonly as a beneficial bacteria, also known as a "probiotic."
